Sainik Schools were established by the Ministry of Defence (Government of India) in 1961 under the vision of Shri V.K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister, to prepare young students for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and other elite defence institutions.

There are 33 Sainik Schools across India today, all affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). These schools are known for their disciplined environment, high-quality education, and strong emphasis on character development, leadership, and patriotism.
